Day 81

Hrmm, I guess even though the white mildew fungus took over most of my right side pumpkin plant, there's new growth that's growing quite beautifully. I ended up chopping off the far right growth to hopefully minimize the infection of the new lovely growth. Fingers crossed!

Look, I made a hat for my pumpkin. I read that in Japan, fancy cantaloupes get their own hat to protect it from too much sun. It's also where I got the idea for a square pumpkin. Come on, have you ever seen a square pumpkin before? I haven't... Sadly, I can't tell whether my pumpkin is growing anymore :( I need a larger container or maybe a ruler? Please please please, grow grow grow!

My arugula and cherry tomatoes! My arugula is flowering, but I can't seem to catch the dead pods to harvest the seeds. Supposedly, they explode! Then fall off but I didn't see any on the ground. Found a lovely site that tells one how to get seeds from plants. Can't wait to get some seeds though I don't really need them as I have a lot more of them from a store bought envelope. As for my tomato plant, I read that if you hurt the roots, it'll make the plant produce ethylene and that will make my tomatoes turn red. Soooooooooooo, I won't be watering it until Sunday. The two plants are already slightly droopy if you can't tell. If that doesn't work, I'll try the other method which is to pick them when they are at mature green and then let them ripe in the house next to a banana.

Found these little critters on my tomato plant. They are strange as their tail side seems to have these sharp pointy thing on them. (Usually, the ones I see are green but with other colors on them and a bit more fuzzy) There is an even tinier one in the second photo on the left side. I cut the leaves they were on and placed them in a jar. Hopefully, they'll grow up to be butterflies and not die in the jar... I also really hope that if there are more in my tomato plant that they eat only the leaves and not my precious tomatoes!
